Hawn State Park
Ang and Eva to gorgeous Hawn State Park. March 22-23, 2003
Three Creeks Conservation Area
Denise and Eva went to Three Creeks to enjoy the water in the summer heat (July 25-27, 2003) and got loads more great stuff then they bargained for. This was a great wildlife viewing trip. Though sadly, no photos of that. They always run away too fast.
Chubb Trail, St. Louis County Parks
Eva was alone this time to all kinds of St. Louis County Parks on the 7 mile Chubb Trail (Aug 10, 2003). It made for a long trek that day (14 miles there and back) but well worth it for the gorgeous summer beauty of flowers and butterflies along the Meramac River.
Door County, Wisconsin
Ok, so this was not exactly backpacking in the traditional sense, but we carried all our stuff with us. Rozzy and Eva had a grand time cycling the Door County Pensisula in Northern Wisconsin. Wow, talk about gorgeous. We took a whole week to enjoy it too!
Around the St. Louis, MO Area
This is also not backpacking officially but it is hiking so it fits. I recently discoved Hike Club St. Louis and this is a couple of trips I went on with them. They are a great group. Check out the photos here and the group at

North Sylamore Creek Hiking Trail, Blanchard Springs, Arkansas
Yay! This time it is the Great Girls for real. We were WAY over due and this trail definitely made up for it. It was an incredible mix of ecosystems so we never got bored of looking at stuff. A fantastic bonus was that it was leaf-off and the views were never ending overlooking the creek that was our guide the whole way. Between the scenery and the company this was an awesome trip. Thanks Girls!!!
Sam A. Baker State Park, MO. Dec 12-14, 2003
The 12-mile Mudlick Trail turned out to be custom made for a Great Girls trip. It was 1.5 miles to the first shelter where we spent a cozy night. The backpack camp was perfectly just over halway through the remainder of the trail. This trip welcomed two newcomers but they were troopers and went up and down with the more experienced Denise and I. The weather was chilly but we were prepared and enjoyed the snowfall on Saturday night. Congrats also on the many creek crossings that added spice.
Giant City State Park, IL. Feb 6-8, 2004
This was a perfect venture into a winter wonderland complete with snow, ice and a night of 4 degrees. We hiked the 16-mile red cedar hiking trail which proved to be all the beauty that was promised. It is quite a challenging trail with ups and downs not bothering with switchbacks but these women where troopers and we made it the whole way and then some. We even managed to bushwack our way back to the place we started. Ask one of us for details of our unexpected, but awesome adventures!
Buford Mountain Wilderness March 19-21, 2004
What fun! We did a lot of giggling, a lot of sweating, and a lot of sleeping. This was probably one of the most challenging trips the Great Girls have been on. It started with a 2 mile climb practically straight up! We made it! A big congrats goes out to Bonnie. This was not only her first GGB trip it was her first backpacking experience ever. She was tired at the end but she did awesome. Another great group on another great trip! No wonder we are the Great Girls :-)
Goggins Mountain Trail May 2, 2004
This was not a Great Girls trip. This was actually with Hike Club of St. Louis. It was hiking so I figured it fit. We had a great time doing this 10-mile loop plus the Johnson Shut-Ins. The weather was fantastic until the very end when it started to drizzle. We didn't mind though. Just meant more variety and a slightly earlier dinner!
Uwharrie / Dutchman's Creek May 8-10, 2004
This was not a Great Girls trip. I went backpacking with my brother, Joe for his first time ever. This was a pretty big deal for me so I decided to share it.

He liked all parts but the sleeping part, so he may yet do it again! This was pretty challenging for us, but we made it and we were psyched. Creeks, flowers, it was an AWESOME trip!!!
Ozark Trail, Current River Section, May 28-31, 2004
This was repudiated to be one of the most spectacular areas in the Ozarks and we were not disappointed. It was long and tiring but we enjoyed it non-the-less. Quite the adventure. We had post-storm creek crossings, gorgeous weather and some serious rain too. Thank goodness the mill was there just as we needed it.

We got everything you would expect from an early summer trip, lots of swimming, poison ivy, and ticks! I might have gone overboard with the pictures on this one but, like I said, it was GORGOEOUS!!!!
From St. Louis, MO to Bethel, NY, August 20 - Auguest 29, 2004
Rozzy and Eva took a nice long road trip from St. Louis, MO to Bethel, NY with stops along the way. Most notably there was a 2-day stay in Yellow Springs, OH. These are photos from that trip.
Piney Creek, Table Rock Lake, MO Sept. 4-6, 2004
Ang, Jennifer, and Eva enjoyed a very much NOT the way it was planned trip to the Piney Creek Wilderness area.
Lone Elk Park, March 5, 2005
Kathi, Denise, Rozzy, Sasha and Eva enjoyed a wonderful early spring day. It was Sasha's first hike in the woods and he loved it. He especially liked the break to change his diaper. Nice breeze on the tushie!
Onondaga Cave State Park, March 20, 2005
Looks like we are on the path of returning to active! We had an awesome group for this - Cheri, Mary, Pauline, Rozzy, Ang, Kathi, Whitney, Eva, and Sasha along for the ride. It turned out to be awesome weather so we never went inside the caves. The trails turn out to be gorgeous though and well worth doing. We totally took it easy, took lots of wonderful breaks, and enjoyed ourselves immensely!
Bennett Springs State Park, April 14-15, 2005
A bit of a crowded park due to the fishing but still made for some wonderful views of the green-blue waters. We braved some serious hills to get those views and it was well worth it!
Cuivre River State Park, May 15-16, 2005
What a wonderful group on another wonderful trip. This was little Sasha's first backpacking trip and he had a blast as well as the rest of us. No special sights, just a nice relaxing weekend had by all.
